CARAL

Caral

Five thousand years of history

Caral is the oldest city in Peru, declared in 2009 by UNESCO as “Cultural Heritage of Humanity”. It is located 23 km from the town of Supe, at kilometer 180 of Panamericana Norte highway, discovered by archaeologist Ruth Shady Solís, changing the course of Peruvian pre-Hispanic history. It was the capital of the first Andean civilization, which forged the foundations of its own unique social organization that, along with Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, China and Mesoamerica, are the original centers of culture in the world. It is “the third oldest place in the world”.

We will contemplate the main pyramid, which is about the size of four football fields and rises to a height of 60 feet (18 meters). We will also see the courtyards and the amphitheater. The views of the surrounding valley are breathtaking.
