Maras Salt Mines Moray
Maras Salt Mines Moray
Have a unique experience enjoying a complete tour in culture, history, and beautiful landscapes in the wonderful city of the Incas: Cusco. We will visit the outstanding archaeological centers of Chincheros, Maras Salt Mines and Moray.
The Maras Salt Mines, near the town of Maras, are made up of more than 3000 wells that contain water with a very high concentration of salt (sodium chloride). Each of the wells has a surface area of approximately 5 square meters. The wells are filled by a hyper saline underground spring that was formed millions of years ago, during the formation of the Andes Mountains. Currently, these natural salt wells attract hundreds of tourists. The view you get from this landscape is beautiful and impressive. The people of Maras commercialize this salt, just as the Incas did hundreds of years ago.
